Background information

The Inter-regional Cooperation Network was established at the onset of ECPGR Phase VI and became operational in October 1999, with the meeting of a Task Force. The Task Force agreed that the main objective of the Network should be to enhance collaboration between ECPGR and other regional PGR crop Networks as well as between their members.

In February 2009, the Steering Committee agreed that, during Phase VIII (2009-2013), the Inter-regional Cooperation Network Coordinating Group will coincide with the Inter-regional Cooperation Task Force, with the following task:

"Organization of one or two Inter-regional workshops, in collaboration with Bioversity and the Treaty Secretariat, with the objective to convey the other regions similar views to those prevailing in Europe as regards the sharing of tasks, material and information, at the same time facilitating and promoting the ratification and implementation of the IT. The Task Force will also liaise with other ECPGR Networks/Working Groups expressing specific interest for inter-regional cooperation"

The composition of the Inter-regional Network Coordinating Group has been defined by the Secretariat, on the basis of nominations received from the National Coordinators.
